Team Ghana’s quest to win a medal in the 4x100m relay final was foiled after finishing in fourth place at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on September 21, 2025.

Ibrahim Fuseini started the race with a strong sprint, placing among the top four before handing over the baton to Benjamin Azamati, who maintained the position.

Joseph Paul Amoah then took over and increased the pace to move into third place, passing the baton to national 100m record holder Rasheed Saminu.

However, his final sprint wasn’t enough, as the Netherlands sthlete overtook him to finish third.

BREAKING: Ghana finishes fourth in 4×100 relay final at World Athletics

The United States of America won the race with a time of 37.29 seconds to claim gold.

Canada followed with 37.55 seconds to take silver, while the Netherlands secured bronze with 37.82 seconds.

Despite the disappointing result, Ghana’s 4x100m relay team showed significant improvement by setting a new national record, one of the best times on the African continent.

The major hurdle of baton exchanges has now been resolved, and the team will be aiming for a podium finish in their next athletics meet.

This result means Team Ghana did not win a single medal at the World Athletics Championships, despite the commendable efforts of the athletes and coaches who represented the country.
