Ghanaian football legend and former Black Stars captain André Dede Ayew made a surprise appearance, joining the Black Queens for a memorable evening hosted by President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
This came off on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, after their heroic bronze medal finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Black Queens continued their celebratory homecoming with a grand dinner at the Jubilee House.
The dinner event was part of a national recognition tour for the Queens, who defeated South Africa in a dramatic penalty shootout to claim third place, Ghana’s first WAFCON medal since 2016.
The team, led by CAF 2nd Vice President and GFA President Kurt Okraku, and accompanied by Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, were celebrated for their fighting spirit, unity, and representation of Ghana on the continental stage.
Dede Ayew’s presence added a touch of class and camaraderie to the event.
A video shared on social media showed the Black Stars’ General Captain mingling warmly with the Queens and other dignitaries, his support a symbol of unity across the national teams.
Ayew, who recently returned to Ghana after a stint in France with Le Havre, beamed with pride as he interacted with the players, a generation of footballers he’s helped inspire.
