Asante Kotoko’s four-game winning streak came to an end after a determined Medeama SC side held the 2022 champions to a 1-1 draw on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa.

Kwame Opoku’s goal in the 44th minute put Asante Kotoko in a strong position, especially as league leaders Hearts of Lions suffered a 3-0 defeat to Bechem United, giving Kotoko the chance to close the gap at the top.

However, Medeama, showing much-improved form in the second half, fought back and equalised in the 61st minute.

Kamaradini Mamudu, left unmarked inside Asante Kotoko’s penalty area, fired a first-time shot that beat goalkeeper Mohammed Camara.

The goal marked Mamudu’s third of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.

The result leaves Asante Kotoko in 6th place with 28 points from 16 games, just 2 points behind leaders Hearts of Lions.

Medeama’s rollercoaster season continues as they sit in 7th place with 25 points but with a game in hand.

Up next for the Mauve and Yellows is a trip to Nana Konamansah Park on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

Asante Kotoko, on the other hand, will host newcomers Vision FC on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
