Nigeria have qualified for the quarter-final of the 2025 AFCON Nigeria have qualified for the quarter-final of the 2025 AFCON

Nigeria swept into the quarter-finals of the 2025 AFCON with a commanding 4-0 victory over Mozambique in Fes on January 5, 2026.

The West African giants controlled the game and pushed for the opener in the early stages with high-intensity pressing.

The Super Eagles’ pressure paid off in the 20th minute as Ademola Lookman curled home from Akor Adams’ cutback to break the deadlock.

Five minutes later, Osimhen doubled the advantage, finishing after Alex Iwobi’s incisive play through midfield released Lookman, whose ball across took a deflection off Adams.

Mozambique’s efforts to get back into the game were foiled, as they were unable to beat the Nigerian players in one-on-one situations or make meaningful incursions in the final third.

Osimhen made it 3-0 early in the second half, tapping in from Lookman’s clever ball across from the left at the back post to score his second of the night.

Adams then capped a fine individual display, firing in Nigeria’s fourth in the 75th minute after more good work from Lookman.

Nigeria, who could have added more, now await Algeria or DR Congo in their quarter-final tie in Marrakech.

Their dominant performance has made them one of the strong favorites for the competition, though they will face a tough test in the quarter-final against one of the giants.

The Super Eagles are aiming to clinch their third title after finishing as runners-up in the 2023 tournament, where they lost in the final to host nation Côte d’Ivoire.
