The Black Stars of Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers ended in a dismay after losing 1-2 to Niger in the final fixture.

Niger recorded their second victory over Ghana to move ahead in a head-to-head tie and also finish above their West African rivals in the group.

Niger, who had a good start, took a deserving lead in the 22nd minute through Badamassi, who beautifully connected a corner with a brilliant header.

They held on to the lead and ended the first period in front. In the second half, Ghana had a strong start in seeking the equaliser.

They had to wait until the 67th minute when substitute Jerry Afriyie connected a cross from Enerst Nuamah to pull Ghana level.

While the game seemed like it was ending in a draw, it had a dramatic turn where Niger reclaimed their lead inside 90 minutes Sako.

Two minutes later, the Black Stars were awarded a penalty. Kudus stepped up and missed the last kick of the game.

The Black Stars ended the qualifiers losing three and drawing three out of their six games. As a result, the four-time African champions finished bottom of a group that consisted of Angola, Sudan and Niger.
