Justice Blay’s penalty secured a crucial win for Asante Kotoko against Karela United on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, propelling the 2022 champions to the top of the Ghana Premier League table.

Aware that a victory would send them to the summit, Kotoko started strongly in the first half but failed to capitalize on their chances.

After a goalless opening 45 minutes, they intensified their efforts in the second half. Their persistence paid off when Baba Yaya was brought down in the box by Salifu Issah of Karela United.

Blay stepped up and delivered a precise penalty, slotting the ball past Mohammed Abdul, who managed to get a hand on it but couldn’t keep it out.

Kotoko’s solid defensive performance ensured they held onto their narrow lead, completing the double over Karela United and extending their unbeaten run to six matches, including five victories.

This impressive form sees Kotoko leading the table with 34 points from 18 games, one point ahead of Gold Stars, who suffered a surprising defeat to relegation-threatened Legon Cities.
