Hearts of Oak secured a vital 1-0 victory over Legon Cities on Friday night at the University of Ghana Stadium, moving to second place in the Ghana Premier League, just two points adrift of leaders Heart of Lions.

The first half offered little excitement as both teams struggled to maintain possession in a scrappy midfield battle. Hearts, however, capitalized on a crucial moment just before halftime. Ahmed Ramzy Yussif made a surging run and delivered a clinical finish past Legon Cities’ goalkeeper, breaking the deadlock.

The second half saw Legon Cities push for an equalizer, but a resolute Hearts of Oak defence, buoyed by the return of goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, stood firm.

The drama unfolded late in the match as Hearts were reduced to 10 men following Emmanuel Amankwah’s dismissal with 10 minutes left. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Phobians held on for the win.

The loss deepens Legon Cities’ struggles, leaving them with 11 points from 16 games. It was also the debut of new coach Yaw Acheampong on the bench.
