Ghanaian prodigy Hafiz Gariba stole the show as Barcelona’s Under-19 side battled to a thrilling 1–1 draw with Chelsea U-19 in the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

The match, held at Chelsea’s Cobham Training Ground in Surrey, England, offered the 18-year-old defender yet another stage to showcase his growing reputation in European football, and he did not disappoint.

Signed on a three-year contract earlier this year, Gariba played the full match, demonstrating composure and confidence beyond his years. Hailing from Teshie, a suburb of Accra, the young Ghanaian operated almost as a libero, orchestrating Barcelona’s backline while also stepping forward when opportunities arose.

His intelligent positioning, calm passing, and ability to carry the ball from deep consistently frustrated Chelsea’s attackers.

Fans on social media were quick to laud Gariba, praising his anticipation, tackling, and decision-making throughout the 90 minutes. From clearing danger to timing perfect interceptions and tackles, Gariba’s defensive mastery was a highlight in a contest that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

The result leaves Barcelona’s U19 side in eighth place after five games, while Chelsea remain atop the group standings. But for many, the real story of the day was Gariba’s commanding display, one that signals the steady rise of a young Ghanaian defender ready to make waves in European football.

With performances like this, Hafiz Gariba is proving that he is not just part of Barcelona’s youth setup, he is quickly becoming one of its standout talents.
