Former President Donald Trump has declared victory in the 2024 presidential election, despite votes still being counted from about 11 states.
With projections showing Trump leading at 266 electoral votes, he needs just 4 more to reach the 270 required for the presidency.
Several world leaders have already extended their congratulations, recognizing him as the president-elect of the United States.
Speaking to a crowd of supporters at his campaign headquarters in West Palm Beach, Florida, Trump expressed his gratitude to Americans for what he called “an incredible mandate.”
He described the US presidency as “the most important job in the world” and attributed his recent survival from assassination attempts to divine intervention, saying that he is here to “heal the nation.”
Trump vowed to honour his campaign pledges, promising that his administration would operate under the motto: “Promises made, promises kept.”

Former President of the United States Donald Trump has been projected to beat Vice President Kamala Harris in the November 5, 2024, presidential election.
Projections by most media giants, including CNN, Fox News, and the BBC, have put Trump in a commanding lead as a vast majority of the election results trickle in.
The projections of Trump’s victory come after he won the election in three major battleground states, including Pennsylvania and Georgia.
CNN has projected that Trump currently has 266 electoral votes, needing just 4 more votes to get the 270 votes required to win the election, with Harris having 188 electoral votes.
The BBC has also projected 266 electoral votes for Trump and 194 electoral votes for Harris, with votes from about 11 of the 50 states remaining.
Fox News has projected that Trump would become “the 47th President of the United States.” It has projected that Trump has 267 electoral votes, needing just 3 more votes to clinch the required 270.
In terms of popular votes, Trump currently has over 68 million votes, while Harris has a little over 63 million votes.
Trump’s party, the Republicans, is also beating Harris’ Democrats for seats in the legislative arm of the US government.
The Republicans have already won the Senate with 51 seats, flipping two key blue states. The Democrats currently have 41 seats in the US Senate.
The Republicans are also in a commanding lead in the House of Representatives. They have so far won 196 seats, flipping 4 Democrat seats. The Democrats so far have 168 seats. To win the majority in the House, a party must be able to garner 218 seats.
