Several personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces have taken over the National Children’s Library at Airport to support Ghanaian teacher, Morkporkpor Fiador, who is also the wife of a military officer, as she attempts to break the Guinness World Record for the Longest Marathon Reading Aloud (Read-A-Thon).

The 240-hour non-stop reading attempt by Morkporkpor Fiador, from the Field Engineer ‘A’ Unit of the 5 Garrison Education Unit of the Ghana Armed Forces, began at 6:00 PM on August 18, 2025.

Her journey has entered day two, as she continues the 240-hour challenge under the strict rules of the Guinness World Records.

On the first day of her attempt, officers thronged the premises, singing and dancing in solidarity.

They have now taken over the facility with heightened security presence, filling the entire auditorium to show support for their colleague’s wife.

The event, which was initially scheduled for December 26, 2024, but postponed due to funding challenges, was rescheduled and officially commenced on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the Children’s Library in Accra.

Fiador, received official approval from Guinness World Records to pursue the record attempt.

According to the GWR email, her application was accepted under the title, “Longest Marathon Reading Aloud”, with strict guidelines provided to ensure the legitimacy of the attempt.

“Each point of the Guidelines must be followed by anyone attempting this record. You must ensure that everyone involved in your record attempt, including participants, stewards, and witnesses, are familiar with the Guidelines,” GWR emphasised in its correspondence.

The record, which requires participants to read continuously for days, will see Fiador attempt a staggering 240 hours of non-stop reading.

Fiador, who has previously taught at Apam Presby and 5 BN Basic School, is widely admired for her passion for education and commitment to inspiring young learners.
