Malawian referees attacked by fans Malawian referees attacked by fans

A referee and two assistants were spotted running helter-skelter after being chased by supporters during a football match in Malawi.

According to reports, the incident took place after a military-owned team, MMF Marines FC, were humiliated at home by four goals to one by Akhaya FC at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.

It was noted that the fans of the military-owned team were aggrieved by the officiating officials due to some decisions they took which negatively impacted the game against them.

In a video shared by EDHUB on X on October 22, 2024, the referees were running hurriedly from the pitch as one of them was being attacked by a fan but was fortunate to escape in time.

The treatment of referees in Africa has been a major concern.
