Ghanaian sprinter Saminu Abdul Rasheed has smashed the national 100 meters men’s record after clocking an impressive 9.84 seconds at the 2025 Last Chance qualifier.

The event, held at McEachern High School in Georgia, saw the Ghanaian sprinter break his own personal record and set a new one.

After breaking Benjamin Azamati’s national record, Saminu has now surpassed his previous record by 0.02 seconds, thereby establishing himself as Ghana’s fastest man in history.

His fellow compatriot, Mustapha Bokpin, finished second with 10.09 seconds among the competing athletes.

Following the outstanding sprint, Saminu is expected to showcase his brilliance on the global stage during the 2025 World Athletics Championship to be hosted in Japan.

The new record makes Saminu the joint third-fastest man in the world in 2025, behind Jamaican athlete Kishane Thompson (9.75s) and Oblique Seville (9.83s).

This feat has elevated his status in the athletics world, putting him among the best in the world.
