President John Dramani Mahama and the First Lady of the Republic, Lordina Mahama, have arrived at the ongoing thanksgiving service for the late Dr Edward Omane Boamah, taking place at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra.

The church service marks the climax of the state burial for the late former Minister of Defence, who, together with seven others, tragically perished in a fatal helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, at Adansi.

President Mahama and his wife, heavily guarded by their security detail, were ushered into the church auditorium, where scores of family members, friends, and top government officials were already seated for the service.

The president was adorned in a black and white batakari, while the First Lady wore a traditional black and white kaba and slit, in keeping with the theme of the event.

The victims of the helicopter crash met their tragic fate on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, while en route to Obuasi to attend a mining-related event.

Among the victims on board the helicopter was the Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah; Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; former Ashanti Regional Minister and current NDC First Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong; Limuna Mohammed Muniru, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; and Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of NADMO.

They were laid to rest in a state burial on Friday, August 15, 2025.
