President John Dramani Mahama on January 18, 2025, arrived in Kumasi to pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II ahead of the Akwasidae festival at Manhyia Palace.

This marks John Dramani Mahama‘s first official visit to the Ashanti Region after being sworn in as president.

In a video shared on social media, John Dramani Mahama was seen displaying his dexterity in the Adowa dance.

Two children dressed in Kente outfits were also seen engaging the president in the cultural dance as they welcomed him to the region.

President Mahama’s visit to the Ashanti Region is also part of his engagement with traditional rulers to resolve the conflict in Bawku.

He disclosed his planned visit to Otumfuo during a courtesy call on the Overlord of Mamprugu, Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga, at his palace in Nalerigu, the North East Regional Capital, on January 15.

The President earlier held a similar engagement in Bawku with Zugraan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, the Overlord of the Kusaug Traditional Area in the Upper East Region.

Adowa dance is a traditional dance performed by the Akan people. It is a cultural expression of emotions and feelings through hand and foot movements.
