On a day that Ghana football marked the one-week observance of one of its darkest days, an incident in a Division One League game between Elmina Sharks and Swedru All Blacks reminded the country of how deeply rooted the issue of hooliganism is in the country’s football.

While the football family were mourning in Kumasi, players, fans, and officials at the game between Sharks and All Blacks were exchanging blows.

Reports indicate that the mayhem arose after the referee awarded a penalty to Swedru All Blacks in the 12th minute.

According to reports, supporters and players of Elmina Sharks went ballistic, with officials and players invading the pitch.

Blows were exchanged in the ensuing melee, leading to a halt for over twenty-seven minutes.

The Ghana Football Association have reacted by charging Jay Asamoah Kola, a player of Elmina Sharks, for the assault.

Jay Asamoah Kola has been charged after he was captured attacking the referee during the game.

Kola has until Tuesday, February 18, 2025, to officially respond to the charges.
