The National Sports Authority (NSA) has conducted a test of the newly acquired pitch protectors at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Some of the covers were arranged on the pitch while vehicles were driven over them to test their durability and efficiency before full deployment.

The pitch cover is designed to preserve the quality of the grass, especially during non-sporting activities such as concerts, large gatherings, and ceremonial events. The cover shields the turf from heavy foot traffic, equipment, and stage setups.

According to the NSA, the pitch protectors were acquired with support from corporate bodies and private institutions.

“The National Sports Authority (NSA) is pleased to announce the arrival of newly procured pitch covers intended to protect and preserve the quality of our national stadium pitches during non-football and multi-purpose events. In pursuit of our mandate to maintain world-class sporting facilities, the NSA, through its marketing wing, initiated a partnership engagement earlier this year, reaching out to private institutions, corporate bodies, and investors to support the Authority in securing modern pitch protection systems.

“These systems are essential to safeguarding the turf, minimizing deterioration, and ensuring that our stadiums remain in optimal condition for both sporting and non-sporting activities. We are proud to acknowledge a visionary wholly owned Ghanaian company that wholeheartedly embraced this initiative and singlehandedly funded the procurement of the pitch covers,” the NSA said in a statement released on December 12, 2025.

The Director-General of the NSA, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, added, “This support has come at a crucial time in our facility management efforts. The arrival of these pitch covers is a major step forward in protecting our pitches and ensuring that our stadiums remain in excellent shape for both athletes and event organizers. We are grateful to our partners for believing in our vision and contributing to long-term sustainability.”
