Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), clashed at the Accra Regional Office of the Electoral Commission (EC) on December 10, 2024, over the delayed declaration of results for the Ablekuma North parliamentary seat.

The situation escalated when NDC supporters stormed the EC premises, reportedly damaging louver blades and other properties.

Video footage from the incident shows agitated protesters forcing their way into the building, despite police efforts to block access.

Before the clash at the EC office, demonstrators had also blocked roads in the vicinity, causing temporary disruptions to traffic. The police quickly intervened, restoring order and clearing the roads.

The unrest is rooted in the uncertainty surrounding the outcome of the Ablekuma North parliamentary race. Both the NDC and the NPP have claimed victory in what has been described as one of the fiercest battles in the 2024 elections.

Meanwhile, the NDC parliamentary candidate, Ewurabena Aubynn, has officially been declared the winner of the constituency’s seat.

The announcement was made by the Returning Officer at the Greater Accra Regional Collation Centre of the Electoral Commission on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, marking the conclusion of a contentious electoral process.

However, the result has not been accepted by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie.
