Some Nigerian fans became emotional after their national team’s disappointing performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Africa playoff final against DR Congo.

The supporters, clad in their white and green attire, had traveled from Nigeria to Morocco to cheer the team on in their game against DR Congo.

However, the match ended in heartbreak for the Super Eagles as they were knocked out of the play-offs.

The fans, consisting of both men and women, were seen standing in a saddened mood. Some were weeping, while others put their hands around their heads and mouths as they grieved.

One lady cried continuously for some time and had to be consoled by her peers.

    About the match

The Super Eagles started the World Cup play-off final impressively, scoring the first goal in the 3rd minute through Frank Onyeka.

They continued to push for a second, but the resilience of the Congolese defense denied them the opportunity to score again.

The game shifted as the first half progressed, with DR Congo’s Elia equalizing in the 32nd minute.

The score remained unchanged after extra time, and DR Congo emerged victorious, winning 4-3 in the penalty shootout.

The result has drawn backlash from Nigerians and other football fans over the team’s inability to qualify for the World Cup for the second consecutive time.
