Concept of Manchester United’s new proposed stadium
Manchester United have revealed their plans for building a 100,000-seater stadium, sidelining the idea of enlarging the club’s famous grounds, Old Trafford.
The stadium, which would be adjacent to Old Trafford, according to the club, will play a major part in generating revenue for the club and also for the United Kingdom’s economy.
Officials disclosed that it also has the potential to create over 90,000 jobs and bring in 1.8 million visitors yearly.
According to Manchester United’s chief executive Omar Berrada, the club’s vision is to ensure they have their players play in the world’s best stadium.
“Our long-term objective as a club is to have the world’s best football team playing in the world’s best stadium. We are grateful for the feasibility work done by the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force exploring options for the future of Old Trafford,” he said.
Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe also revealed how this new stadium is to ensure the team moves away from Old Trafford as it has gone past its best years.
“Our current stadium has served us brilliantly for the past 115 years, but it has fallen behind the best arenas in world sport. By building next to the existing site, we will be able to preserve the essence of Old Trafford, while creating a truly state-of-the-art stadium that transforms the fan experience only footsteps from our historic home,” he said.
