Assistant Superintendent of Police Bawah Abdul Jalil has warned miscreants in Tamale Assistant Superintendent of Police Bawah Abdul Jalil has warned miscreants in Tamale

The Commander of the special taskforce team set up by the Inspector General of Police, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bawah Abdul Jalil has issued a strong warning to the youth in Tamale against resisting the operations of the special police unit assigned to restore order in the city.

In a video shared on social media on December 3, 2025, ASP Bawah Abdul Jalil stated that the special taskforce does not operate like the ordinary police and, as such, casualties cannot always be avoided.

Police launch special operation in Tamale ahead of festive season

According to him, although the team will exercise caution in its operations to combat criminality in Tamale and its environs, they will not hesitate to deal with individuals who attempt to confront them.

“… With the casualties, casualties are part of our operations. There’s no way you have a special operation that is carried out without casualties, even though we are going to be careful.

“We always make sure that we put all measures in place, professionalism, commitment, dedication, yet there’ll be casualties because we still have some miscreants within the criminal environment who, in one way or the other, will try to confront or provoke the police,” he warned.

ASP Abdul Jalil indicated that it appears some individuals are being deceived into believing they can resist or confront the operations of the taskforce.

“It is very clear that some people within social media are deceiving the criminals in various areas, and because of those comments and videos, people think that when the special operations team is coming to embark on an operation, they can attempt by trying to resist or fight back,” he stated.

He continued, “But nonetheless, they should not forget that we, as a special operations team, are not like the ordinary police people that they see on the streets and believe they can easily challenge. We appreciate the fact that in every operation there’s criticism. We appreciate the fact that at any point in time when you are operating, you listen to the public and be able to amend and review your operations.”

ASP Abdul Jalil cautioned that attempts by such individuals to fight back against the taskforce as it executes its duties will be met with an appropriate and decisive response.

“When people become emboldened and think they can confront police officers, we are sending a signal to them that if you counter us once, we will counter you twice or thrice and remember, that you’ll get casualties,” he added.

The special operation is aimed at clamping down on criminal activities in the Tamale Metropolis ahead of the festive season.

According to a statement issued by the police on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the operation is intended to ensure that citizens and residents of the Metropolis can carry out their daily activities without fear.

“The operation is designed to allow residents and visitors to carry out their daily activities without fear. Intelligence-driven raids have led to the arrest of multiple suspects involved in various criminal offenses. These suspects have been processed for court, and their cases are currently before the Tamale Circuit Court,” the statement said.
