The Achimota-Ofankor Barrier stretch was completely flooded after Thursday evenings heavy rains The Achimota-Ofankor Barrier stretch was completely flooded after Thursday evenings heavy rains

Heavy rains on Thursday evening, June 26, 2025, resulted in the complete flooding of the Achimota-Ofankor stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway.

The important stretch became completely flooded shortly after the rains began. It is unclear what causes the usual flooding of that stretch.

Floodwaters submerged both sides of the road, rendering them impassable and forcing many motorists to either park their vehicles or carefully navigate through the rising water.

The incident has brought to attention the capital’s ongoing flooding problems throughout the rainy season and reignited worries about inadequate urban design and drainage systems.
