Ghanaian forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has wasted no time settling into life at his new club FC Aarau after sealing a two-year deal with the Swiss Challenge League side.

Barely hours after his move was announced, Barnieh has been spotted putting in the hard work during his first training session with the Aarau squad.

The 24-year-old attacker joined his new teammates for shooting, running, fitness, and passing drills, signalling his determination to hit peak form ahead of the new season.

Barnieh’s switch to Aarau comes shortly after he departed from Swiss Super League side FC Zurich, where his contract was mutually terminated on July 3, 2025.

Despite making 50 appearances and scoring twice for Zurich since arriving in January 2023 from Ghanaian giants Accra Hearts of Oak, Barnieh struggled for regular minutes and has now opted for a fresh start where he can play a more central role.

Once a household name in Ghana’s domestic league, Barnieh first rose to prominence captaining the Ghana U-20 team to glory at the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations before making the move to Europe.

His arrival is a big boost for Aarau, who are counting on the forward’s experience and versatility as they prepare to challenge for promotion from Switzerland’s second tier.

Club insiders say Barnieh’s immediate involvement in intensive drills highlights his hunger to prove himself and cement a starting place in the squad.

Fans will be eager to see how the talented forward settles into the new environment and whether he can rediscover the form that made him one of Ghana’s brightest young stars.
