A chilling warning has been issued to tourists visiting the North Korean ‘Benidorm’, after 250 Brits signed up to see Kim’s new beach resort.

The resort in Wonsan, at a former missile launch site, got its nickname after Kim Jong-un reportedly sent a fact-finding mission to Spain‘s Costa Blanca in 2017.

Now, after years of delay, it’s set to open this summer, with the first trips in July up for sale through Vostok Intur, a travel agency in Vladivostok, Russia.

And Brits are keen to visit too – On The Beach made a page for people to register their interest, and got more than 250 sign-ups within a month.

But campaigners warn that holidaymakers risk paying the ultimate price, and that nobody’s safety is assured in Kim Jong-un’s kingdom.

Greg Scarlatoiu, executive director of the Committee for Human Rights in North Korea, said a visit was both unsafe and immoral.

He said: ‘The Wonsan-Kalma resort was built with forced labour. Vacationing there is morally and ethically wrong – it is truly an abomination.

‘Having Russian nationals vacation there is testament to the pathetic isolation of both Russia and North Korea.’

Some tourists visiting the country pay with their lives.

Mr Scarlatoiu offered the example of Otto Warmbier, an American student arrested on dubious charges during a trip to Pyongyang in 2016.

Accused of taking down a propaganda poster, he was detained for 17 months, released in a vegetative state and died.
