Algeria’s head coach, Farid Benstiti, is rallying his team for a formidable challenge as they face Ghana’s Black Queens in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

With a semi-final spot and 2026 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification points at stake, Benstiti acknowledged the strength of their opponents.

“Ghana is a very strong team. We need to do everything to try and pass this quarter-finals,” he stated.

The match, set for Stade Moulay Hassan in Rabat on Saturday, July 19, pits two teams with contrasting styles and inspiring journeys against each other in a high-stakes showdown.

Ghana’s Black Queens, led by coach Kim Lars Björkegren, have showcased their attacking flair and resilience in Group C despite a 2-0 loss to reigning champions South Africa, which exposed their defensive frailties.

They, however, rebounded with a 1-1 draw against Mali and then dominated Tanzania with a 4-1 victory to secure their quarter-final berth.

Algeria’s Desert Foxes, under Benstiti’s tactical guidance, have relied on defensive solidity to reach this stage from Group B.

Their second also provided another goalless draw against Tunisia, showcasing their organised midfield and defense.

A 1-0 win over Botswana, sealed by Amira Ould Braham’s second-half strike, confirmed their knockout qualification.

Ghana aims to capitalise on their attacking prowess, led by players like Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, to break down Algeria’s defense and move closer to their first title in over two decades.

Algeria, an emerging force, sees this as a chance to make history by upsetting a traditional powerhouse.

Benstiti’s call to “do everything” emphasises the Desert Foxes’ determination to exploit Ghana’s vulnerabilities, as seen in their loss to South Africa, while relying on their defensive strength shown against Nigeria and Tunisia.

With Morocco’s vibrant atmosphere fueling the tournament, the Black Queens and Desert Foxes are set to deliver a thrilling encounter.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM (GMT) at Stade Moulay Hassan, where both teams will battle for a place in WAFCON history and a step toward World Cup qualification.
