The Volta Regional Directorate of the National Sports Authority (NSA) has expressed its commitment to supporting the development of goalball and other para sports in the region through partnerships with organizations dedicated to inclusive sports.
This follows a visit by a team from the regional office, led by Regional Physical Education Officer Dzidodo Ruben Adjahoe, to observe a goalball training session organized by Football in Your Life for students of the New Horizon Educational Centre for the Blind.
The session was held in preparation for the upcoming National Goalball Tournament scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2025, at Lincoln International School, Abelemkpe, Accra.
We have been chasing some players, but they don’t pick our calls – Otto
Football in Your Life is a Germany-based organization that promotes adaptive and inclusive sports among persons with disabilities. The team, led by CEO Birger Nass, is currently conducting similar training sessions with goalball teams in other regions ahead of the national competition.
Lead trainer Sebastian Müller, who also serves as Assistant Coach of the German National Goalball Team, commended the discipline and focus of the young athletes at New Horizon.
“The players here are very disciplined, very focused, and quickly adapted to the techniques introduced. It would be great to have an artificial surface where the kids can slide and defend balls without getting injured. I am a teacher in Germany, and I must say the kids here are very athletic compared to their counterparts in Europe. With the right facilities and training, they can compete at the international level,” he said.
Volta Regional Director of the NSA, Madam Philipina Frimpong, a strong advocate for para sports, reaffirmed the Authority’s interest in partnering with Football in Your Life to train more coaches and expand para sports development in the region.
She revealed that her office had already supported an initiative that trained about 25 Physical Education (PE) masters from various schools in the Volta Region and emphasised the need to continuously engage these trained coaches in programs that will sustain the growth of para sports.
“We are excited about the collaboration with Football in Your Life. This partnership will not only enhance the skills of our coaches but also create more opportunities for athletes with disabilities to explore their potential,” Madam Frimpong stated.
The Volta Regional NSA hopes that such collaborations will contribute significantly to the long-term development of adaptive sports and inclusion across educational institutions in the region.
