Ho, Volta Region – The Volta Region is abuzz with excitement following the recent visit of Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to Adidome, the capital of the South Tongu District. Agyapong’s bold declaration that the Volta Region, alongside five other northern regions and the Accra Plains, can feed the entire African continent has resonated deeply with locals.

King Daviid Norgbey, a prominent figure in the region, echoed widespread support for Agyapong’s agricultural ambitions during an appearance on GBC Volta Star Radio’s morning show with Tony Mark-Boye. “There is substantial merit in Ken’s claims,” Norgbey emphasized. “We should heed his words and, regardless of whether he becomes the flagbearer or president, pursue this vision in Ghana’s best interest.”

Agyapong’s plan hinges on harnessing the region’s vast agricultural potential, leveraging its fertile land and favorable climate to boost food production. The MP’s vision includes modernizing farming practices, investing in agro-processing, and developing robust market infrastructure to ensure Ghana becomes a net exporter of food.

    Agricultural Potential Untapped

The Volta Region boasts immense agricultural potential, with vast tracts of arable land suitable for cultivating crops like maize, cassava, and vegetables. However, this potential remains largely untapped due to inadequate infrastructure, limited access to modern farming techniques, and insufficient investment.

Agyapong’s proposal to utilize the region’s agricultural prowess to feed Africa aligns with Ghana’s broader development goals. The country aims to diversify its economy, reduce reliance on imports, and create employment opportunities in the agricultural sector.

    A Call to Action

As Ghana grapples with food insecurity and economic challenges, Agyapong’s vision offers a promising solution. The Volta Region’s enthusiastic response underscores the need for policymakers to prioritize agricultural development. By investing in this sector, Ghana can unlock its potential, improve food security, and contribute to Africa’s economic growth.

The people of Volta Region await the next steps, hopeful that Agyapong’s ambitious plan will translate into tangible benefits and propel Ghana towards prosperity.
