Villarreal CF have officially announced the signing of Black Stars midfielder, Thomas Partey ahead of the 2025/26 La Liga season.

The Spanish club confirmed the deal on their social media platforms on Thursday, August 7, 2025, stating that the 32-year-old will join up with the team at their training ground on Friday, August 8.

“Villarreal CF and Thomas Partey have reached an agreement for the Ghanaian footballer to join the Yellows ahead of the 2025/26 season. The player will join up with his new team tomorrow at the Training Ground,” the club posted.

Partey arrives on a free transfer after leaving Arsenal following the expiration of his contract in June 2025.

His departure ended a five-year spell in North London, where he made 167 appearances across all competitions and scored nine goals.

Last season, he featured in 52 matches, including Premier League and UEFA Champions League, under Mikel Arteta.

The move marks a return to La Liga for Partey, who previously spent several years at Atlético Madrid before his high-profile switch to Arsenal in 2020.

Partey’s arrival is expected to bring experience and grit to Villarreal’s midfield, as they prepare for a packed 2025/26 campaign.
