Ghanaian media personality Gloria Akpene Nyarku, popularly known as MzGee, has candidly shared her emotional journey and the challenges she faced after stepping into the role formerly occupied by Nana Ama McBrown as host of United Showbiz.

Currently the host of Just Being Us on Akwaaba Magic, MzGee used her platform to inspire and uplift young journalists, encouraging them to stay focused and rise above criticism.

In a deeply personal Instagram post, she revealed the emotional toll and intense public scrutiny that followed her appointment to the show.

MzGee recalled a specific incident involving a call she made to Afia Achiaa Rakia, a presenter with Bryt TV.

During that segment, Kumawood actor Big Akwes participated in a light-hearted game where he was asked to choose which female actress he would marry or date.

While intended as harmless fun, the incident sparked discussions about entertainment journalism and its responsibilities.

However, the media storm MzGee faced after replacing McBrown proved to be a true test of her emotional strength.

“It was an emotional rollercoaster. I had to endure gossip and unfair criticism from people within the same industry,” she said.

Despite the backlash, MzGee found strength in the support she received from some of Ghana’s most respected female voices in media. She expressed deep appreciation to Nana Aba Anamoah, Deloris Frimpong Manso (Delay), and Gifty Anti for reaching out to her during that difficult time.

“These women lifted me when I was down. They called me, comforted me, and reminded me of my worth,” she noted.

In a heartfelt ten-minute video, MzGee further shared her intention to pay it forward.

She announced her desire to support a young female journalist who had recently come under public attack, stressing the need for solidarity among women in media.
