Popular and award-winning movie director and producer Samuel Nyamekye, the CEO of Miracle Films, has openly declared Dr. Likee as the current “King” of Kumawood.
He made this bold declaration during a live interaction at the studio of Angel FM on the Drivetime Show hosted by Ike Unpredictable.

In explaining his position, the seasoned filmmaker asserted that the movie industry operates in cycles, with every era having its standout personality.
According to him, the industry has now transitioned into the era of Dr. Likee. “In this movie business, everyone has their time, and I can confidently say that now is the time of Dr. Likee,” he stated.
To reinforce his point, Mr. Nyamekye provided a detailed chronology of the evolution of the Kumawood film industry.
He revealed that he was instrumental in pioneering the movie business in Kumasi, which initially thrived. However, to expand the market, they began integrating Nigerian actors into their productions. This move backfired as Nigerian films gradually overshadowed local productions, taking control of the market.
Faced with this challenge, the industry sought to reclaim its dominance by making the late Santo a prominent figure in Kumawood films.
This strategy according to him became a huge success, but after Santo’s untimely demise, the Nigerian influence resurged.
To counteract this, Mr. Nyamekye revealed that he took a bold step by elevating Agya Koo, known privately as Alex Kofi Adu, from his concert role to also become the face of the industry.
He added that Agya Koo held the mantle for over a decade, becoming a household name and driving Kumawood’s resurgence.
However, the inability of Kumawood producers to capitalize on the growing YouTube market eventually created a gap. Mr. Nyamekye acknowledged that it was Dr. Likee and his team’s innovative use of YouTube that revitalized the industry.
Through their entertaining skits and productions, they have redefined local content creation and distribution, making Dr. Likee the undisputed leader of the new wave.
“Right now, if you want to shoot movies or skits for YouTube and hope to make your money back, you either need Dr. Likee or one of the talented boys he has trained. The work he has done cannot be overstated,” Mr. Nyamekye asserted.
