A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Legal and Communications Team, Victor Adawudu, has called for greater collaboration between the two major investigative bodies in the country, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for effective prosecutions.

Speaking during an interview on Channel One TV on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, he noted that both institutions, while vital independently, often operate in “silos”, which limits their effectiveness.

“When it comes to OSP and EOCO, my personal view, is that the OSP and EOCO should collaborate more closely.

“OSP doesn’t have as much reach, but EOCO is all over the country and has resources. So, if they put the same effort into the same job and work together, we will see more effective prosecutions and the retrieval of funds,” he noted.

Victor Adawudu lamented the current bureaucratic processes which leave some cases hanging or unattended to by either of the institutions due to jurisdictional limits.

“Sometimes one agency will say this job doesn’t fall within our mandate and refer it to another. But if these two institutions worked hand-in-hand from the beginning, it would be far more efficient,” he added.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor was established in 2018 by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to investigate and prosecute specific cases of corruption and corruption-related offences in the private and public sectors.

On the other hand, EOCO is a specialised agency set up to monitor and investigate economic and organised crimes.

It operates on the authority of the Attorney General to prosecute offences to recover the proceeds of crimes.
