    Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has joined the wave of national pride sweeping across the country, congratulating the University for Development Studies (UDS) after their historic triumph at the 2025 International University Sports Federation (FISU) Men’s Football World Cup in China.

    UDS stunned Brazil’s Paulista University 2-1 in extra time on Sunday to become the first African university to lift the prestigious trophy, a feat that has drawn admiration from leaders, alumni, and football fans alike.

    Reacting to the victory, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang described the achievement as a source of inspiration for the nation.

    “Champions of the World! After a spirited journey, players from Ghana’s University for Development Studies (UDS) have been crowned Champions of the University World Cup in China,” she said.

    UDS win historic World University Games for first time

    She praised the team’s resilience and unity, adding:

    “Your determination, teamwork, and resilience have lifted Ghana to the pinnacle of global university football. This victory is a triumph for UDS and the entire nation.”

    The vice president also highlighted the broader impact of the win, noting that the players’ success had set an example for young people across the country.

    “Know that you have written your names in history and inspired young people across Ghana and beyond. Congratulations!” she concluded.

    Her remarks add to the chorus of national leaders who have hailed UDS for rewriting African football history.
