The Deputy Minister of Finance Designate, Thomas Ampem Nyarko is currently before the Appointments Committee of Parliament.
Thomas Ampem Nyarko is a prominent member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Asuogyaman Constituency in the Eastern Region of Ghana since January 2017, representing the constituency in the Sixth, Seventh, Eighth and the current Ninth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic.
Born on February 14, 1978, in Anum, Eastern Region, he has a strong educational background, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Geography from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and an MSc in Finance from Virginia Commonwealth University in the United States. He also earned a teacher’s certificate from Peki Training College.
Before his parliamentary career, Ampem Nyarko worked as a teacher in Ghana and the U.S., a part-time lecturer, and a Director of Finance for the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation Secretariat. He has also served as the District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman. In Parliament, he has been actively involved in financial oversight, notably as Chairman of the Budget Committee in the Eighth Parliament and a member of the Finance Committee from 2020 to 2024.
He will serve as deputy to Dr Cassiel Ato Forson if his nomination is approved by Parliament.
