    Veteran Ghanaian Musician, Teddy Osei Of Osibisa Fame Is Dead

    Ghanaian musician and saxophonist, Teddy Osei, of Osibisa fame is reported dead.

    Mr Osei, one of the founding members of the Afro-rock band Osibisa, was reported to have died on the morning of Tuesday, January 14, 2025, in London.

    His demise was confirmed to Myjoyonline by the President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bessa Simons.

    He passed on at the age of 88.

    Born in December 1937, Teddy Osei was well-known as the leader of the Afro-rock band Osibisa which was founded in 1969.

    During his childhood, Osei, who was born in Kumasi, had the opportunity to be introduced to musical instruments.

    After he started playing saxophone, he put in an effort to form a band with college friends at Sekondi. Following his graduation from college, he obtained a job as a building inspector for a year before he created a band called “The Comets.”

    In 1962, Teddy Osei travelled to London, this was after The Comets was becoming popular. His travel was on the back of him receiving a grant from the Ghanaian government to study at a private music and drama school for three years.

    Together with other musicians, Osibisa was founded in 1969.
