Ibrahim Kwaku Gyasi, widely known as I.K. Gyasi, a respected Ghanaian educationist, author and veteran journalist, has died at the age of 87.

The news of his passing was announced by the AMASS 1979 Secretariat, bringing to a close a remarkable life dedicated to education, journalism and national development. I.K. Gyasi was a former headmaster of T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School (AMASS) in Kumasi, where he served from 1990 to 1998.

An alumnus of the school, he made history as the first former student to rise to the position of headmaster. Beyond administration, he was deeply committed to teaching, serving for many years as an English language tutor and mentor to countless students who passed through the institution.

Outside the classroom, I.K. Gyasi distinguished himself in journalism as a prolific newspaper columnist. He wrote the widely read “Bluntly Speaking” column in The Chronicle for more than two decades, offering forthright commentary on education, governance and national issues. He retired from active journalism in August 2016 at the age of 80, after nearly 50 years in the media industry.

His immense contribution to journalism was formally recognised in 2023 when he was inducted as an honorary member of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).

I.K. Gyasi is remembered as a disciplined educator, a fearless writer and a committed public intellectual whose influence spanned generations.
