Vance calls on ICE to ‘work even harder’ after agent shoots woman who drove into him

By MELISSA KOENIG, US REPORTER and RACHEL BOWMAN, US SENIOR NEWS REPORTER

    Updated: 01:59 EST, 8 January 2026

Vice President JD Vance called on Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to ‘work even harder’ after an agent shot dead a woman federal officials claim rammed her vehicle into him.

Protests have sprung up across the country following the death of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis on Wednesday, but Vance said he, President Donald Trump ‘and the entire administration’ stands behind ICE officers.

‘To the radicals assaulting them, doxxing them, and threatening them: congratulations, we’re going to work even harder to enforce the law,’ he wrote on X.

The president has previously claimed on his Truth Social page that Good was ‘a professional agitator’ who ‘violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer’ before the agent acted in self defense.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem then reiterated that claim as she spoke to reporters Wednesday night, claiming that Good had been ‘stalking’ agents prior to the shooting.

‘It’s very clear that this individual was harassing and impeding law enforcement operations,’ she said, before calling on federal prosecutors to charge individuals who use their vehicles to ram ICE agents as domestic terrorism.

But Democrat Mayor Frey has blasted ICE’s characterization of the shooting and told them to ‘get the f**k out of Minneapolis.’

‘They are already trying to spin this as an act of self-defense. Having seen the video myself, I wanna tell everybody directly, that is bull****.’

Daily Mail brought all of the latest updates.

Vance says ICE will ‘work even harder’

In a statement on X, Vice President JD Vance said ICE is now ‘going to work even harder.’

‘I want every ICE officer to know that their president, vice president, and the entire administration stands behind them,’ he said.

‘To the radicals assaulting them, doxxing them, and threatening them: congratulations, we’re going to work even harder to enforce the law.’

Noem claimed the victim was ‘stalking’ ICE officers

Noem said at the news conference that Renee Nicole Good had been ‘stalking’ immigration enforcement agents prior to the shooting.

‘It’s very clear that this individual was harassing and impeding law enforcement operations,’ she said, before calling on federal prosecutors to charge individuals who use their vehicles to ram ICE agents as domestic terrorism.

The Department of Homeland Security said they were acting in self-defense when the agent opened fire.

The former brother-in-law of a mother shot dead by an ICE agent during immigration operations in Minneapolis has argued she ‘should have minded her own business.’

Good’s former brother-in-law Joseph Macklin has weighed in on the tragedy, telling the Daily Mail on Wednesday night she put herself in a dangerous situation without reason.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey responds to those who called his remarks ‘inflammatory’

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey was asked on CNN about his remarks calling on ICE to ‘get the f**k out of’ the city.

‘I’m so sorry if I offended your Disney princess ears,’ he replied.

‘But here’s the thing: If we’re talking about what’s inflammatory, on one hand you got someone who dropped an F-bomb and on the other hand you have someone who killed somebody else, I think the more inflammatory action is killing somebody.’

‘And so once again, let’s be real and honest and straight up about what’s happening here, this is not OK – the way they’re coming into cities, not just Minneapolis, but around the country is not OK.’

‘You want to make a big deal about an F-bomb,’ Frey later added, ‘I think let’s make a big deal about our Constitution, I think that’s probably the better route.’

Border Czar Tom Homan decries ‘reckless’ rhetoric

Border Czar Tom Homan decried ‘reckless’ rhetoric in the aftermath of the shooting.

‘I think it’s reckless what I’m seeing on social media,’ he told CBS Evening News’ Tony Dokoupil. ‘I’ve seen seven or eight members of Congress make the comment that ICE just murdered somebody.

    ‘The investigation’s ongoing,’ he said.

‘The comments about murder is going to incite more violence, more threats and hopefully not more bloodshed.’

Maryland senator declares ‘we cannot trust a word coming out of this administration.’

Sen. Chris Van Hollen, of Maryland, declared that the American public ‘cannot trust a word coming out of’ the Trump administration.

He wrote on X that he has rewatched the video of the shooting.

‘It is grotesque to hear Kristi Noem justify her killing as a response to “domestic terrorism” & for Trump to spread further lies on social media,’ van Hollen posted.

‘We need immediate answers & accountability — we cannot trust a word coming out of this Administration.’

Senator from Hawaii likens shooting to Japanese internment

Sen. Brian Schatz, of Hawaii, has likened the ICE-involved shooting to Japanese internment.

‘A six year old is an orphan because the government shot the mom, and now they are lying about it,’ he posted on X.

‘This conduct will go down in infamy like the govt agents who kidnapped native kids, or those who incarcerated Japanese Americans. Shame, forever.’

Illinois Governor calls on Noem to resign

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker called on US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to resign from office.

‘For months, Trump’s DHS has wreaked lawless havoc in our neighborhoods. Tear gassing infants, families, and police. Firing their weapons at peaceful citizens. Killing innocent people,’ he posted on social media.

‘It’s brutal, unconstitutional, and out of control.

    ‘It must stop.

    ‘Kristi Noem must go. Now.’

Disturbing video shows agents pushing, pepper spraying protesters

Disturbing video from Minneapolis showed an armed ICE agent grabbing a protester in a green jacket and pushing him to the ground, before deploying pepper spray at the crowd.

The officer could then be seen pushing others out of the way as the crowd called out ‘Cowards’ and ‘Get the f**k out of this neighborhood.’
