Chaos has sparked in Los Angeles County as 9.6million residents were wrongly told to evacuate the raging wildfires.

The entire population was mistakenly told to leave the area Thursday around 4pm local time, according to Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn.

Hahn took to X shortly after the notification went out, stating that it ‘was mistakenly issued,’ and was actually meant for the areas ‘impacted by the Kenneth Fire in Woodland Hills.‘

‘I have been informed the evacuation warning that many of us just received on our phones was mistakenly issued countywide due to a technical error. A correction will be issued shortly,’ Hahn wrote.

Many were left furious by the disastrous mistake, and quickly fired back at Hahn in the comments.

‘Your failures will be remembered in history textbooks. Resign. This is going to get people killed,’ one wrote.

‘Thanks for freaking out all of Los Angeles County. Didn’t need this while all of us and family are on edge already,’ said another.

Another user commented: ‘You incompetent buffoons.’

The emergency alert was sent to LA county residents telling them: ‘NEW: This is an emergency message from the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

‘An EVACUATION WARNING has been issued in your area. Remain vigilant of any threats and be ready to evacuate. Gather loved ones, pets, and supplies.

‘Continue to monitor local weather, news, and the webpage alertla.org for more information,’ it read.

About 22 minutes later, a second notification came through telling residents: ‘Disregard last EVACUATION WARNING. It was for Kenneth Fire Only. AlertLA.org for more information.’

Shortly after the first notification went out, another was sent to 'disregard' the first as it was meant for those affected by the Kenneth Fire in Woodland Hills

The link to alterla.org is a landing page for residents in the county to use for information on the wildfires.

A retired firefighter with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Bob Goldman, told KTLA that the mistake might have been caused by a human error.

‘It’s not a 100-percent system yet, so somebody may have pushed the wrong button.’

This is a breaking news story.
