The Chief Imam of the Adenta Municipality, Sheikh Mohammed Mutawakil Abubakari, has implored Islamic leaders and Imams to use their podia to discourage any form of violence before, during and after the December elections.

“With Ghana’s 2024 elections on the horizon, it is imperative for Imams to tailor their sermons to reflect current political and geopolitical trends. We must exercise circumspection in our preachings, promoting peace and discouraging violence among congregants,” he said.

Sheikh Abubakari was speaking at the closing of a two-day training workshop for Imams in the municipality with the support of Direct Aid Society Ghana.

The two-day empowerment workshop was aimed at equipping the leaders with necessary information based on hadith and the verses of the Quran awarding participants with certificates at the end of the event.

Bringing together esteemed Imams from various mosques within the municipality, including Imam Hussein of the Frafraha Central Mosque, Imam Yussuf Adam of Research Last Stop Masjid, and Imam Abdul Rahim of Dagomba Chief Mosque, the seminar formed part of several initiatives by the Chief Imam’s office this year to foster harmony among the Muslim communities, particularly the youth.

Renowned Egyptian scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Misri, guiding participants through effective methods for crafting impactful sermons, emphasized the importance of diversity in preaching and cautioned against extremist sermons.

For his part, the Deputy Chief Imam, Sheikh Nuru Adam, facilitated an open forum where participants shared challenges they faced as scholars which yielded diverse solutions to foster a spirit of collaboration and knowledge sharing among Muslim leaders
