The United States has issued a terrifying new air travel warning as the Venezuela crisis spirals.

The Federal Aviation Authority issued a security-related Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) that alerted pilots, airlines, air traffic controllers, of dangers in and around Venezuela.

The FAA warning issued at 1.08pm ‘potentially hazardous situation’ in the Maiquetía Flight Information Region which encompasses Venezuelan airspace and parts of the southern Caribbean – near Colombia, Guyana, Brazil, and Trinidad.

‘Threats could pose a potential risk to aircraft at all altitudes, including during overflight, the arrival and departure phases of flight, and/or airports and aircraft on the ground,’ the FAA said.

It adds that this is due to ‘worsening security situation and heightened military activity in or around Venezuela.’
