The United States Embassy in Ghana has held a training workshop for sports journalists and bloggers as part of preparations toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The session brought together over 30 media practitioners and focused on enhancing coverage of the global tournament through training in reporting guidelines, storytelling techniques, and emerging trends in sports journalism.

Facilitators for the workshop included Ghana Football Association Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, as well as renowned journalists Gary Al-Smith and Eva Okyere. Participants were taken through key areas such as FIFA media regulations, ethical reporting standards, and how to develop compelling story ideas before, during, and after the tournament.

The training also placed emphasis on digital storytelling and strategies for audience engagement in an increasingly online-driven media landscape.

According to the Embassy, the initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen sports journalism in Ghana ahead of the World Cup.

Chargé d’Affaires Rolf Olson urged journalists and football fans planning to travel to apply early for visas to avoid delays. He also cautioned applicants to adhere strictly to visa conditions, noting that overstaying could negatively impact future travel opportunities.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
