A popular pram has been recalled and parents have been warned to stop using it ‘immediately’ amid fears of ‘injury’ to children.

The urgent warning has been issued because of a problem with the £319 buggy’s parking brake, which could be dangerous to babies and toddlers pushed in it.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards said of the fault: ‘This could lead to the unintentional release of the brake during use, resulting in the pram being insecurely parked and presenting an injuries risk to the infant user.’

Worryingly, it added: ‘Products with the affected serial number do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.

‘The affected products have been withdrawn from the market and recalled from end users.

‘Owners of the YOYO3 should stop using the product immediately and review the serial number marked on the underside of the pram.’

The popular YOYO3 stroller, sold in various colours, is made by Norwegian company Stokke in China. The faulty figure is 142AA followed by numbers below 0062239. Prams without ‘AA’ in their serial number are not affected by the brake issue.

The same model was recalled in Australia in November for a brake fault. The brand says on its website it is ‘recognised worldwide for best-in-class solutions for children’.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards recommended, in its statement recalling the product last week, what parents should do after stopping using the pram and noting its serial number.

It said: ‘You should then access the Stokke recall portal where you can enter your serial number into the checker and follow the steps to seek the applicable remedy.

‘Alternatively, should you have any questions, or require advice on next steps, please visit the Stokke customer service site.’

Stokke’s YOYO3 pram is described on the company’s website as ‘versatile and ultra compact’, to be used for children from six months old and up.

It is touted as ‘sturdy and super maneuverable’ and comes with a three-year warranty.

It is sold in eight different colours – black, olive, aqua, stone, taupe, ginger, Air France blue and toffee. The frame comes in either black or white.

On its recall webpage, Stokke said: ‘Ensuring the wellbeing and safety of the children and families using our products is our main priority.

‘We recently identified a potential parking brake issue in certain Stokke YOYO3 prams that could result in an unintentional release of the brake during use.

Owners of the faulty pram were advised by the government to 'review the serial number marked on the underside of the pram'. The faulty figure is 142AA followed by numbers below 0062239. Prams without 'AA' in their serial number are not affected by the brake issue

‘Out of an abundance of caution we have initiated a recall of the affected Stokke YOYO3.

‘We sincerely apologize for any concern and inconvenience this matter may cause you.

‘We understand how important it is to choose safe and reliable products for your child.

‘This is why we are dedicated to the safety and well-being of every baby and child who uses our products.

‘We design and test our products rigorously to ensure they meet or exceed all applicable international safety standards.’

Stokke has been contacted for comment.
