Students at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville were told to run, hide, and fight on Monday afternoon, following false reports that there was a shooter on campus.
UVA’s police division sent out an alert just after 3pm on Monday telling the college students and faculty members to flee amid the ‘active’ shooting situation.
The gunman allegedly fired shots near the Shannon Library, police said. The ordeal has now been confirmed as a hoax and police have given the all clear.
‘UVA Emergency Alert: ACTIVE ATTACKER with a gun reported in area of Shannon Library 160 McCormick Road. RUN HIDE FIGHT,’ the warning stated at the time.
Police said when they arrived at the scene at Shannon Library, their preliminary investigation showed ‘no evidence of an attacker,’ despite their prior warnings.
Over 26,600 students are enrolled at the Virginia-based college.
Earlier this year in February, the University of Virginia issued a shelter in place order amid a frantic search for a suspected gang member who was spotted on their grounds.
Staff and students were being urged to avoid Nyheem Hill, who is described as a 6’1, 170lb, black man wearing a gray hoodie.

He was wanted after he allegedly fled the scene after hitting a state trooper’s vehicle following a traffic stop – causing hysteria across the college campus.
UVA also made headlines last year after their extraordinary spending on DEI initiatives came to light.
The college spent $20 million a year on its 235 diversity, equity, and inclusion staffers, including a woman who says the spike in premature deaths in Appalachia is due to the ‘toxicity of whiteness,’ a damning report said.
Open the Books, a spending watchdog, said the flagship public college in Charlottesville dropped $15 million on salaries and $5 million more in benefits to its DEI team.
They include Rachel Spraker, an ‘equity and inclusive’ officer, who called Appalachia’s wave of premature deaths a sign of ‘white toxicity,’ and the school’s diversity chief Martin Davidson, who pockets nearly $600,000 a year.
The university disputed parts of the report and said it only spent $5.8 million out of its annual $2.3 billion academic budget on DEI.
Adam Andrzejewski, author of the damning study, said UVA has ’embraced the divisive quotas of the neo-Marxist DEI crowd.’
