Former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau Kwabena Adu Boahen and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, have filed a defamation lawsuit against Attorney General Dr Dominic Ayine.

The suit, filed on April 24, 2024, by their lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea, follows Ayine’s March 24, 2025, press conference, where he accused the couple of misappropriating GH¢39.5 million in state funds related to a $7 million cyber defense system contract with ISC Holdings Limited.

The plaintiffs according to a report by asaaseradio.com are seeking exemplary damages, a perpetual injunction against further defamatory statements, and legal costs, claiming Ayine’s statements labeled them as criminals and fraudsters, damaging their reputation and causing public backlash.

They argue Dr Ayine’s remarks, made while they were detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), ignored their presumption of innocence and caused severe reputational harm, including ridicule faced by their children.

Adu Boahen was arrested on March 20, 2025, at Kotoka International Airport, and his wife on March 21, on suspicion of financial crimes.

Both were granted bail in the sum of GH¢80 million each.

The couple allege that Dr Ayine’s public statements, widely circulated online, were made without giving them a chance to respond and were intended to scandalize them in public opinion.
