The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) Council has paid a courtesy visit to their Chancellor, former President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Agyekum Kufuor, affectionately known as the Father of UMaT.

As part of tradition, the Chancellor annually hosts the Council at his residence, providing a platform to deliberate on the future of the University while sharing moments of fine dining and camaraderie.

This year’s meeting was marked by a powerful charge from H.E. Kufuor, who urged the Council to work diligently to make UMaT the “MIT of Africa.” He emphasized that with vision, innovation, and hard work, UMaT can rise to become a leading hub for science, technology, and innovation in Mining and Technological on the continent.

On behalf of the Council, Prof. Goski Alabi, Chairperson of the University Council, pledged to lead with dedication and ensure the dream of transforming UMaT into a globally recognized institution of excellence becomes a reality.

The Council also expressed heartfelt gratitude to H.E. Kufuor for his wise counsel and generous hospitality. Indeed, he is a great father whose presence has positioned UMaT as a leading University for mining education and research in Africa.
