It’s common for the University of Connecticut‘s women’s basketball team to blow out their opponents. But on Monday afternoon, they truly laid the smack down on historical rivals Syracuse thanks to an uncommon solution.

The Huskies under head coach Geno Auriemma beat the Orange 98-33 in a brutal result at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, led by point guard Azzi Fudd’s 34-point performance.

Fudd’s success on the court has been well established, but her coach – Geno Auriemma – offered some sage advice after his star had a rough performance in the opening game against UT San Antonio.

Auriemma, the most successful coach in the history of college basketball, suggested that Fudd should trim her fingernails.

‘I did, I trimmed them. I had a nail file yesterday before practice,’ Fudd told ESPN’s Holly Rowe before heading into the locker room at the half. ‘I guess [Auriemma] was right, I had to cut my nails.’
