A U.S.-based Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), Eli’s Wells, has provided two mechanised boreholes for the Yawsan and Baakoniaba, a farming community in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono Region.

The two mechanised boreholes form part of 19 such facilities so far constructed and handed over by the NGO in partnership with Wensah Foundation International, to beneficiary communities in the Sunyani Municipality.

According to the Project Coordinator of Eli’s Wells, Richard Lyall, the project was the NGO’s corporate social responsibility to the people.

He said it was also to honour the Omanhene of the Sunyani Traditional area, Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor, who is a good friend to the Founder of Eli’s Wells.

At a short ceremony on Saturday at Yawsan and Baakoniaba respectively to inaugurate the water facilities, the President of Eli’s Wells, Jared Stein, said the aim was to bring pure, clean water to communities in need of water, and reduce their reliance on contaminated water sources.

For his part, the Vice President of Eli’s Wells, Douglas Alley, said the project was the NGO’s corporate social responsibility towards the beneficiary communities to improve quality of life, especially for those living in underserved communities.

“This is our token of friendship. We’re truly grateful to be here to provide you water. And this is just the beginning,” he said.

Mr Ransford Antwi, who represented the Omanhene of Sunyani Traditional area Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor, commended the NGO for the honour done to the beneficiary communities and expressed the hope that the newfound relationship between Sunyani people and the NGO would be sustained.

He urged the beneficiary communities to take good care of the water facilities to ensure its longevity.

Abena Nyarko, a 50-year-old farmer at Yawsan, said most of the residents had to rely on streams for water supply as the only borehole in the community often experienced breakdown due to the enormous pressure on it.

She expressed her gratitude to the American NGO for coming to their aid.

The NGO, which has been operating in Ghana for the past two years, drills, installs and repairs water wells and pumps to improve health and provide sustainable access to potable water.
