Trump boasts about ending wars and ‘obliterating’ Iran’s nuclear facilities as he unveils his Board of Peace at Davos: Live updates

Donald Trump has welcomed world leaders including Argentina’s Javier Milei and Hungary’s Viktor Orban to his newly formed Board of Peace at Davos.

The US President boasted about his peacemaking record as he claimed to have ended eight wars across the world, adding he was close to resolving another in reference to Russia and Ukraine.

The leaders were brought out on stage at a ceremony hosted by Trump who will leave Switzerland later after meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Originally intended to help end the devastating Gaza war but which the President now sees having a wider role that Europe and some others fear will rival or undermine the United ​Nations.

Trump, who will chair the board, has invited dozens of other world leaders to join it and sees the ​grouping addressing other global challenges beyond Gaza, though he does not ​intend it as a replacement for the United Nations, he has said.

Keir Starmer has said the focus on Greenland will now shift to what a deal with the US might look like as he hosts Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen at Chequers later today.

Speaking in Hertfordshire, the Prime Minister said:

I am keen to ensure that there’s agreement about the goal. So the United States, the UK, European allies and others all agree we need better security in the Arctic in relation to the threat from Russia…

Now we need to look at what a deal might look like and I’m seeing the prime minister of Denmark later on today to continue that discussion.

Starmer also confirmed he had yet to speak to Donald Trump following his u-turn on the threat to impose additional tariffs on the UK and other European allies over Greenland.

Heads of states and political leaders from across the world joined Donald Trump on stage at Davos as he unveiled his Board of Peace tasked with resolving global conflicts.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum, the US President said: ‘Once this board is completely formed, we can ​do pretty much whatever we want to do. And we’ll ​do it in conjunction with the United Nations.’

Overall, the countries represented onstage Thursday are Bahrain, Morocco, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Mongolia, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the UAE and Uzbekistan.

President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner showed off a Gaza master plan Thursday that includes ‘coastal tourism’ corridors – not unlike Trump’s initial pitch of making the wartorn Palestinian territory the ‘Riviera of the Middle East.’

Kushner gave a PowerPoint presentation amid the president’s Board of Peace ceremony at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Ivanka Trump’s husband and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff have been leading negotiations for the U.S. to end the Gaza war and have gotten involved in ending the Ukraine war, too.

Kushner explained that, initially, they planned to create a ‘free zone’ and a ‘Hamas zone’ to divide up Gaza.

‘And then we said, you know what? Let’s just plan for catastrophic success,’ he told the crowd. ‘Hamas signed a deal to demilitarize. That is what we’re going to enforce.’

Trump concluded the event by noting how he’s a ‘real estate person at heart.’

‘And it’s all about location,’ he said of Gaza. ‘And I said, look at this location on the sea. Look at this beautiful piece of property, what it could be for so many people.’

Donald Trump reiterated his claim to have resolved eight wars so far during his presidency and claimed he is close to ending a ninth with further talks to be held with both Ukraine and Russia today.

Tensions boiled over last May following an attack in Indian-administered Kashmir which led to four days of strikes before Trump announced the neighbours had agreed a ‘full and immediate ceasefire’.

Leaders of both nations claimed Trump should receive the Nobel Peace Prize following a peace deal announced at the White House in August.

The countries exchanged strikes over 12 days in June after Israel targeted a number of Iranian targets. Trump declared he had brokered an agreement with a ceasefire agreement.

President Trump received praise across the world after he helped negotiate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which resulted in the the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners following the October 7 attacks.

Tensions have long existed between the African nations over a dam on the River Nile. Trump has promised to resolve the issue but no formal deal has been reached.

In June, Trump declared he had prevented an outbreak of a ‘big war’ between the two countries after telling them there would be no trade with the US. The nations have long been in dispute.

In June, a peace agreement was signed in Washington after hostilities flared up when the M23 rebel group seized mineral-rich territory in eastern DR Congo.

In July, Trump called on Thailand to request a ceasefire with the two countries agreeing to one days later after a breakout of fighting at the border.

During his speech, Donald Trump claimed the war in Gaza is ‘coming to an end’ and now consisted of ‘little fires’.

He said the conflict was the starting point for his Board of Peace before it’s remit was widened to help resolve all global conflicts.

The US President was instrumental in a ceasefire which resulted in the exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners last year.

On Hamas, the armed Palestinian militant group which carried out the October 7 attacks in Israel in 2023, he said: ‘They have to give up their weapons and if they don’t do that, it’s going to be the end of them.’

Tony Blair turned up for Donald Trump’s ‘peace board’ launch today despite a snub from the UK government.

The former PM was namechecked by the US president at the ceremony in Davos, where he hailed the level of interest in participating.

Sir Tony is an executive member of the board alongside Mr Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.

The launch came just hours after Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said Britain would not be participating as there were ‘concerns’ about the invite for Vladimir Putin to join the body.

Almost all other European nations are also holding off, with fears of a new standoff developing after a tentative solution was found to the bitter spat over Mr Trump’s demands for Greenland.

After finishing his speech on stage at Davos, Donald Trump signed the Board of Peace charter.

The charter, which reportedly makes no mention Gaza, was included alongside invitations to countries across the world.

He then shook the hands of world leaders who joined him on stage.

Donald Trump has claimed ‘every country’ wants to join his Board of Peace despite notable snubs by US allies including the UK, France and Canada.

Speaking on stage at Davos, Trump said: ‘Every country, just about every country, wants to be a part of it. And we just sent out the letters a couple of days ago, and these are just the countries that are here. They happen to be in Davos.’

The UK today confirmed it would not be taking part in the ceremony after an invite was extended to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Of the leaders who were on stage, Trump said: ‘Every one of them is a friend of mine… I like every single one of them. Can you believe it? Usually I have about two or three that I don’t like.’

President Donald Trump suggested that fresh talks with the Iranian regime could be on the table.

‘Iran does want to talk, and we’ll talk,’ he said Thursday, delivering remarks at this Board of Peace event at the World Economic Forum.

Trump seemed poised to intervene militarily on behalf of Iran’s anti-regime protesters in recent weeks, though he backed off after receiving concessions from the Islamic regime that they would stop killing demonstrators.

In an interview that aired Tuesday night on NewsNation, Trump made a bold threat after Iranian state television made assassination threats against the American leader.

‘Anything ever happens, we’re going to blow the – the whole country is going to get blown up,’ Trump told NewsNation’s Katie Pavlich.

This is the moment Donald Trump welcomed Sir Tony Blair to his Board of Peace at Davos.

Sir Tony will not serve on the board but will be on the executive council as one of seven founding members.

‘Thank you, Tony, for being here. We appreciate it,’ the US president says.

President Donald Trump took a whack at Spain while unveiling the ‘Board of Peace’ during a session at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Thursday.

Trump has long grumbled about Spain’s resistance to increasing military spending like other members of the NATO alliance.

Onstage Thursday, Trump noted how he had secured commitments from ‘virtually’ all of NATO to increase spending to 5 percent of each country’s GDP.

‘Everybody but Spain,’ he complained. ‘I don’t know what’s happening with Spain. Why would they not do that? They want a free ride, I guess.’

The Spanish weren’t represented at the Board of Peace event.
