Amid the ongoing social media debate, where some stakeholders are calling for a change in the welcome greetings of some state facilities from “Akwaaba” and “Woezor” to “Oobakɛ”, media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has shared her view on the situation.

In a post shared on X on August 28, 2025, Nana Aba addressed such comments as tribalistic and unwarranted to the development of the country.

She described calls to change the “Akwaaba” and “Woezor” greetings as irrelevant, adding,

“Tribalism is pure nonsense. Unity over barriers,” she said.

Questioning the ‘hypocrisy’ of individuals pushing such narratives, Nana Aba pointed out that tribal differences are usually ignored when it comes to basic needs including selecting food choices.

“When hunger catches you, fufu and Kenkey don’t ask if you’re Ashanti, Ga or Ewe,” she added.

    Background:

Nana Aba’s comments come in response to an ongoing discussion, as some netizens have taken to social media to express dissatisfaction with the use of “Akwaaba” as the welcome inscription at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, Kotoka International Airport, and other state facilities in Accra.

The debate, which was sparked by an X account identified as The Ga Union, argues that these facilities are situated on Ga land and, as such, welcome signage should be displayed in the Ga language instead.
