An Accra Circuit Court has granted a travel agent, Augustine Opoku Anaman, a GH¢100,000 bail with two sureties for allegedly defrauding a colleague of GH¢249,325 under the pretext of securing travel visas for ten clients.

The Court, presided over by Madam Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, ordered that the sureties be justified and must be salaried workers earning not less than GH¢3,000.

Anaman, 40, is also to deposit a valid national ID with the Court’s Registry. Prosecution was directed to file and serve disclosures before the next adjourned date, January 22, 2026.

Detective Chief Inspector Abel Amannie told the Court that the complainant, Madam Joyce Adjabeng, a travel agent at East Legon, contacted Anaman after seeing a TV advertisement on his firm, Inter Prime Travel Consult.

He is alleged to have claimed he could secure visas to the UK, USA, Canada, Austria, Finland and Andorra within four to five months.

According to prosecution, Anaman quoted travel package fees ranging from GH¢30,000 to GH¢90,000 per client, depending on the country of choice, convincing the complainant to hand over 10 clients and a commitment fee of GH¢249,325.

He allegedly cut communication after receiving the money, shut down his office and went into hiding until his arrest.

In his caution statement, Anaman admitted receiving the money but claimed he forwarded it to a UK-based agent named Alex Hales – information investigators say he could not substantiate.

Police investigations concluded that the purported travel packages were fictitious.

He has since been charged and arraigned.
