A 16-year-old Ghanaian teenager, Comfort Antwi, has tragically lost her life following a fatal car crash in Charlotte, North Carolina in the United States.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), the incident occurred on Saturday, January 3, 2026, on the 5800 block of West Sugar Creek Road. Comfort Antwi was driving her Toyota Yaris northbound when it veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a BMW X3.

“On Saturday, Jan 3, at approximately 8:56 a.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the 5800 block of West Sugar Creek Road. Upon arrival, officers located a damaged Toyota Yaris and BMW X3. Officers found the driver of the Toyota, Comfort Antwi, 16, with life-threatening injuries. The Charlotte Fire and MEDIC responded to the scene. MEDIC transported both Antwi and the driver of the BMW to the hospital,” the CMPD report stated.
Despite medical intervention, Comfort Antwi succumbed to her injuries on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Detectives from CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit and DWI Task Force, along with Crime Scene Search teams, investigated the crash and collected physical evidence.
Authorities have stated that toxicology results are pending as part of the ongoing investigation.
