A young woman has drowned at a popular swimming spot near Alice Springs.
Northern Territory police said the 25-year-old died at Ellery Creek Big Hole about 90km west of Alice Springs at about 12.50pm on Sunday.
CPR was being performed at the 27m-deep waterhole in West MacDonnell National Park when St John Ambulance paramedics arrived and took over, but the woman could not be revived.
The area has been closed off and police have established a crime scene as investigations continue.
Police are urging visitors to exercise caution around waterways and follow safety advice in remote areas.
It is not yet known whether the woman is a local.
Ellery Creek Big Hole is known for its camping, walking, swimming and picnic spots.
